A Day at the Zoo

Thanks to Patrick's Family getting us a Season's Pass to the zoo! It has been really great. I really didn't take as many pictures this time due bean there done that.... Really Caleb just wanted to stay at the kids area and ride the rides and play on the play ground today. The train wasn't working when we first got there. Caleb said "bummer". But it was a joyous occasion when they did get it working. My friend from college Jennifer Wentz was able to join us. We still have yet to see any Lions. And the big cats stayed in the back ground or were taking naps. Bummer. Caleb being cute and funny meowed when asked to roar at the lion cut out. The new Parakeet Habitat was cool. 500 birds and you got to walk inside with a stick with bird seed. Caleb loved when they would fly in circles. Not long after Jennifer left us Caleb had quite a spill. He skinned both knees and hands. Poor thing. But what a nap he had.

Dogwood Festival 2009

A beautiful day Saturday April 18. We went to the Dogwood Festival in Piedmont Park and enjoyed the park grounds, carnival food, some exhibits (lines were a bit long), and the dog show. We really didn't look at the art. Sorry artist. But with a rambunctious 3 year old we did not have the patience. Riding Marta back and forth was just icing. I wish Marta came out here to Cobb County. We might go intown more often.

Cousins in Town

Oh what fun to have other boys over. Caleb had a blast. Owen and Zander... most of the time. (Zander was quite tiered of hearing Caleb sing his abcs after the 20th time.) We met everyone downtown and had fun at Centennial Park. The boys loved the all kids park and of course the fountains. The oddest (if that is the right word) thing they enjoyed is picking the nuts off the oaks tree and throwing them down the grates into the sewer. Hope no oak tree start growing down there. We did ride Marta back to pick up the car. They thought that was really cool. The next day we went to Play in Roswell. It was quite a hit with the boys. Ikea was quite a hit with us mommies. Though the boys didn't complain too bad with cinnamon rolls and ice cream. Caleb was sad to see his "best friends" leave. He is quite melodramatic. "I'm never going to see them again. "

MOPS Playdate at Kangazoom

Here is a fun place to take the kiddos....

We had a blast here. It took him about ten minutes or so to warm up the bouncy houses. But once he started there was no stopping him. They have a place with tables that they can eat. Caleb was sharing his lunch really well with others. (of course he started taking others food. so we had to have an important lesson that even if you give you might not get back.)He even started feeding one girl. She is about his age. I guess we better watch them closely. I think he is oblivious to girls or he might just be a player. For you girls out there I hope he is just oblivious because he does have an awfully cute smile that melts most women.

This is Alex's Birthday Party. He is Caleb's 2nd Cousin? Alex's daddy and and Patrick are cousins. It was a really cool pool party. I know pool party with his ears? Well we put stuff in his ears and he rarely put his head in the water. He probably gets more on his head when he taking a bath. Luckily there was also a playground attached. Any ways it was trucked themed. Really cute. There was even a dirt cake in HUGE toy dump truck.

Ear Drum Perforations

As many of family and friends know. Caleb's left drum perforated. Or tore. Perforated just sounds better. Friday (8/8) I had brought him in the DR because he was complaining about his ear. The DR is not one that we usually see since we went in as a walk in patient. She diagnosed him with an outer ear infection or swimmers ear. I should have gone with my gut and asked someone else could have taken a look at his ear. But away we went with ear drops.

That night he was screaming and kept on saying a train was in his ear. Well we thought the Motrin had done the trick when he finally stopped screaming little did we know that it was the ear drum taring. Well when I went to put the drops in his ears that morning there was blood. So we took him to an urgent care. My faith is not to high in this place either since the first person that looked in his ears couldn't tell the difference between his ear canal and his ear drum. And she thought that we should go to the hospital right away and would need surgery. Lucky she did go and get the DR. He said that we just needed to make an appt with the ENT as soon as possible. Prescribed oral antibiotics and something to help loosen mucus. Well the ENT scheduled him for that Wednesday. In this right ear they removed the tube from the canal. The tube had already come out it was just hanging around in the canal. It had lots of wonderful wax build up all around it already. In his left ear the ENT sucked out the yuck from it. They said the tear was small and was healing and should heal faster. Gave us another kind of drop to put in his ears (it has antibodies and a steroid). And said to finish the oral antibiotic. And they will see him in a month.

Busy July

Wow I have had a busy July.

Caleb had his birthday. He had a great birthday party, but I have no pictures :(

We had it the Thursday before his birthday in the middle of the day. I went with the Cars theme. You know the movie Cars. He loooooves that movie. He can quote almost the whole movie now. (not on command mind you) He was quite excited to have all his little friends over. The night before low and behold he tells mommy that his ear is hurting. So the morning of his party my DH brings him to the DR to check him out. Both tubes have popped out and his right ear is infected. Thank you DH. And they got home before the party started. Instead of a traditional birthday cake I did cupcakes. I (tried) to make a big wheel and several smaller wheels. Well that meant black icing. I don't know if I will ever do black icing again. But it look cool. Again no pictures. DH had a job to go to after dropping off Caleb, that left me in charge of mingle. We had a diverse group of people. We invited neighborhood kids, Mt Bethal MOPS kids and Cumberland MOPS kids. Oh and of coarse their mommies or daddies. Nana was able to make it too. She was a big help with some behind the scenes stuff. After the last kid left, Caleb with the cutest pouty face ask me, "Where are all my friends?" Well I replied in typical mom fashion, "They all went home to take naps just like we are going to do now." It sort of worked. After the nap I started taking down the decorations. Well Caleb ask me not to take his party down. He was so cute and earnest I went ahead left up the balloons and some other noticeable decorations.

The next couple of weeks after his party Caleb and camped out in the basement of our church, Cumberland Community Church. I was in charge of decor for VBS. There was quite a few things that needed to be painted. Thanks to the many peps that took stuff home to cut out and paint. It was huge. Well.... Again I don't photos. Partly because I was not there for set up and the week of VBS. I was at the beach. Hopefully someone took some photos of it.

Well the beach trip I did take photos. Quite a few actually. Every year Patrick's (DH) family goes to North Lichfield beach. It is nearish to Mrytle Beach. Caleb took pretty well to beach life. He didn't freak out about the sand, yeah! (that is huge by the way) And he went into the ocean. Now when we first got there was a weather system some where close and the waves were quite choppy. Caleb really didn't like that. After the weather system had passed. It took quite some doing to get Caleb out in the water again. He like the small waves. But does not like the big ones. We did do another "party" for Caleb at the beach. It was just him and his cousins Payton and Preston.

Some other activities in between was Anne Schultz's baby shower. Quite lovely.

We also often went to the local pool.

Playset and yard part duex

Here is a before picture and now picture. The playset is up, but there is landscaping to do yet. Being that our back yard is on a hill we dug a flat area. Well we have two outcrops of rock veins. So we did not get to finish with the backhoe we rented and we have been trying to get the rest out by hand. (to save money... we have already gone way over budget) We also ran out of money to build retaining walls. Maybe next year.

New find at East Cobb Park

Ok I might regret this, but between East Cobb Park and Fuller Park there is a bridge that crosses the creek. On the Fuller Park side they have steps going down to the creek. Last week I brought Caleb's swim suit and a net. We looked at the fishys and tried to catch them. Just a warning the water is a tad on the cold side. But on these hot days and a good hard playing at the park, the water feels sooo good.

Olivia's Birthday Party

Well across the road (as much as you can have across the road in a cul-de-sac) there is a little girl, Olivia, a month or so older then Caleb. She had a great birthday party. Theme based on a circus, or carnival. Caleb loved the games. And for the 1st time he loved bouncing in a bounce house.

Trip to Minnesota in early June

Sorry for taking a while to post this. Our trip to Minnesota was a long wonderful long great long awesome. Did I mention long? It probably seemed longer due to the fact that my wonderful caring husband had to stay home.

It is a 3 day road trip with a toddler and a dog. Caleb and I road with my parents (Gamma and Pappy) and their German Shepard (their 3rd child) Shadow in their Suburban.
So OK night one brought us to Mt Vernon, Illinois. We stop at a Motel 6. Let me just not recommend the Motel 6 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. My Parents have had good luck with Motel 6s in the past. And they are pet friendly. But this one.... Well lets just say the rooms were soooo small and we had to ask for clean linens.

Night 2 we end on in Dubuque, Iowa. My brother Nathan and his wife Joyce live there. Now if you know anything about Iowa... it is that they grow corn. Well not in Dubuque. Dubuque is on the Mississippi River. It is on the border of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. It is quite hilly. It has this beautiful park, Eagle Point park, which over looks the Mississippi. It's building have a Frank Llyod Wright feel to them. It is only a $1 for a car to get in. (A season pass is $10.) Which for all it has.... well is cheap.
We stayed the weekend here in Dubuque. My mom and I went Garage Saleing to help find baby stuff for Joyce. She is due in mid November. They are expecting a baby girl. This is their first.

Our last leg of the trip was through Amish country.

Caleb was such a trooper. We had no dvds in the car. (it blew a fuse) And schedule. Well there was none. And he met so many new relatives.

We did get to do some fun things too. We went to Como Park and MOA (Mall of America).
At Como Park we had a picnic lunch, a boat ride we saw some muskrats, zoo, and went on some rides, and then met the bride to be and family for a picnic dinner. At MOA we went to Under Water Adventures, an aquarium. We walked around Nick Universe, but didn't ride anything. Then we had a late lunch at Rainforest Cafe.

My cousin Jennifer's wedding was beautiful. Caleb napped during the ceremony. He called all of the ladies princesses.
Ok this is a funny story. While we were at the reception Caleb decided that he needed to go to the bathroom with me. So he is in the stall with me and ask what I got on my legs. I tell him panty hose. (Anyone know where this is going?) He rubs my panty hose and tells me that it feels good. The lady in the next stall starts to chuckle. And he starts to look under the stall and ask who is there. More chuckles from next door, as I'm picking him up and telling him that we don't do that. Then he states, " Mommy, your pantys feel good." (She might have laughed out loud at this point) I corrected him and told him it is mommy's panty hose. And ushered him to wash hands.

The next Sunday we are back on the rode to Iowa. On the way back it is raining off and on. We find out there is road closers due to all the rain. We saw a couple of twisters form and dissipate (thank you God!). That was scary. My mom and I both saw it at same time and we started to yell drive faster. That rain front must have been going at 60mph if not faster. The other twister we saw was when we were at my brothers. Again it formed as the storm front started to cross the Mississippi and dissipated when it reached the other side. (Personally I was ready to go to the cellar.) Needless to say if we had left Minnesota a day later we might have been stuck in there a good while longer.

The rest of the trip home was uneventful. We were all glad to get back to our own beds.
But the next morning we woke up it was hot, compared to what Minn. had been. (One day the high was in the high 50s/ low 60s.)

Playset and yard

We have been working hard this weekend. We have purchased a used Playset via Craigs list. It was a great deal only 2yrs old. But that has been the only deal. Our backyard has been a forest on a big hill with lots and lots of ivy. Well we have cut down many trees and gotten many stumps out and lots of ivy dug or pulled back. Wow our yard looks bigger and oranger. Caleb loved it. He loved having his Gamma, Pappy and Shadow come and visit. Thanks Gamma and Pappy! For all you did.

Also this weekend we went to see the production of the Wizard of OZ at Tucker First Methodist. And guess who was there. Chrissy and the twins.

My MOPS group sold Mother's day Casseroles at church. We sold out. yeah!

We had brunch at St. Mountain Commons with all the family. Nanna, Pappa Tom, Uncle Tommy, Aunt Chris, Gamma, Pappy, Payton and Preston. We had a great relaxing time.

My Sweet Helpful Boy

Well I got a little burnt from strawberry picking. I put sun screen everywhere but the back of my neck. Well I was applying the blue aloe goo to the back of my neck when Caleb had to "help" Mommy. By the time he was done I had an inch thick (OK maybe a little exaggeration) and all over my shirt. He was so proud that he could help mom feel better, beside the gooey stuff was fun to play with.

MOPS Mt Bethal Stawberry Pick May 2nd

Oh what fun we had with our Mt Bethal Strawberry picks at Washington Farms in Loganville. Before lunch we picked a gallon. Then we had lunch with everyone else. Caleb had fun with his buddies .... you know sticks, guns and chase. Well, as we are loading up Caleb pouts and wants to pick more. So we picked another gallon. This time it went much quicker. Well Caleb still wants to pick more (aka pick 2 and eat as many as possible). Well I told him that we could come back. As we get in the car and drive off he states, "I'm sad. Miss you strawberry patch."

Oh by the way for those of you looking for deals on plants. There is a wholesale nursery in Loganville.

A Day with Thomas the Train and Family

Sorry for not posting in a while. But Caleb had been sick and doing one more thing seemed quite impossible being sleep deprived. Now my Husband is battling a Sinus infection. He is waiting on new insurance cards to come in before he goes to the doctor so that we don't have a big insurance mess that might take months and months to get right. That being said. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that Patrick got a new job. He is still doing the IT thing, just with Carter Concrete Structures.

This weekend we went to Chattanooga to go see family and see and ride Thomas the Train. On the way to Thomas, Caleb said about seeing and riding Thomas ,"It makes me so... happy!" It indeed made Caleb very happy. But that was not the only thing that made Caleb so... happy. He loves playing with his cousins Payton and Preston, especially Payton. Also cotton candy makes his tummy so... happy.

Fernbank, Heart and Giggles

Last Tuesday the 8th we went to Fernbank to meet our Mt. Bethal MOPs Playgroup. Totally forgetting about Spring Break. Well we arrive late with a huge crowd at the museum. I've never been there so I am in awe and I didn't realize that they had a preschool area. (I really should have read the map... duh) So we missed actually playing with our friends. Oh well we still had a blast. Here Caleb is "pollinating the flowers and fishing".
Then we had to go the cardiologist for Caleb's check up. He has a slight heart mummer. The doctor he won't need antibiotics for dental work and see him in a year.
Caleb loves to play chase, hide and seek or any combination there of. Nothing warms the heart more than a kid's laugh.

Hide and Help

Last weekend and this past week has been full. Last weekend was the last Sunday that our old church River Community Church met. This week April 1st Patrick started a new job, Carter Concrete Structures http://carterstructures.com/. His new commute takes him to St. Mountain. It ends up that his commute only takes him 5 minutes longer each way. Due to high pollen count Caleb's allergies have formed into a croupy cough and he now has to us an inhaler. But as you see he really hasn't let him slow him down. Caleb is a huge copy cat. I guess Patrick and I joked about not being able to hear each other and Caleb has picked up on it. When we say or ask him something that he doesn't like, he will go "Huh, huh, huh? What was that talking?" This weekend has been tons of fun. Gamma, Pappy, and Shadow came over this weekend. Pappy was helping us with some plumbing and drywall, and Caleb "helped" Pappy. One of Caleb's favorite games is hide and seek. He has found a new hiding place, as you see in the video. Yes there is no trash in the can.

New Rain Boots

Nana Gail bought Caleb these "new" rain boots from Goodwill Tuesday on senior day. He loves them. He wore them all day yesterday even though there was no rain. He can't wait for the rain so that he can jump in puddles and his feet stay dry.

Easter in North Carolina

For Easter we traveled to Mt. Airy, North Carolina to Nannie Lou. For those of you who don't know. Mt. Airy is the home town of Andy Griffith and is similar to Mayberry. We all had a lot of fun. We decorated eggs, swam at the hotel pool, had pork chop sandwiches, the boys went geocaching and the girls and kids went downtown (Caleb got a hair cut at Floyd's.).

Caleb loved the Dekalb County Police Car. He was able to work the lights, talk and sing over the intercom, and got to "drive" the car. Oh yeah and then there was the Easter Egg Hunt. He loved his candy. So much so he was willing to go into time out in order to get 5 or so eggs out opened and in his mouth while I was in the bathroom.

These past couple of weeks. Caleb has been really adamant about doing things for himself. He has been very good about putting on his shoes by himself. It sometimes means shoes on the wrong foot. But today it meant two different shoes all together. At first I thought it was because he couldn't find the matching pair. So I brought out the other shoes that paired with the shoes he had on. Well he refused. He said proudly," No mom, black shoe and tenny." He has been my little helper. Today he helped me put his shirts on hangers. "Clean" the kitchen counter. "Help" mom sweep. I broke down and bought him a small broom with dust pan that is all his. He also helped get the mail. He is getting so tall!

Easter Egg Hunt

This morning we went to the Mt. Bethal Senior Center and got to brighten up their days. And get chocolate. If you don't know already this Christmas Caleb pronounced his faith in chocolate. By saying "I believe in chocolate" and later stating that "I love chocolate". It was hard to keep him focused on getting the eggs. He wanted to dive right in and open the eggs as he picked them up. Finally realizing that others were picking up eggs as well he decided that he should pick up more eggs. Here in the picture he is so proud of his eggs. After the hunt was all done he want to "dig in" right there. I told him when we went inside. Well he straight away went inside and sat down at a table and started breaking open the eggs. Soon the seniors came inside. All the kids were showing their eggs and some were giving eggs to them. Well Caleb.... he decided that they also needed to eat their chocolate and started opening their eggs and unwrapping their chocolate and handing it to them. Luckily they loved it.

Missing Daddy

Dad (Patrick) has been in North Carolina since Friday and won't be back until Tuesday. Mornings and Evenings have been really hard for Caleb. Here we are taking pictures to text to Daddy. Caleb really wanted to take the pictures and put on the "drama".

O'pa and O'ma visited

O'pa and O'ma visited this Wednesday the 5th. O'pa and O'ma is dutch for grandpa and grandma. Since my dad's side is dutch ... my maiden name is De Jong. Yeah that is a fun name for the south. But I digress. Caleb had a blast playing tee ball with O'ma Sylvia. He only hit the ball at her a couple of times. And then he whacked one hard and she was close ouch, sorry O'ma. So she started "playing catcher". Mom (Me) started to play "pitcher" after that. O'pa tried to get as much of it on film as he could but the light wasn't that great. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures either. Patrick has been helping Sylvia with a website Dejongministries.com.

Swinging at Gamma and Pappie's

This weekend we went to Gamma and Pappie (My Parents) with virtually no Internet connection. They have slow dial up. We went to my childhood home because of Birthdays. My dad's and Patrick's are both in February. (Patrick's bother and sister's birthday are also in February.)
Caleb spent a lot of time with his Pappie. He followed him every where. Pappie got Caleb to swing, by himself. A feat that I have not been able to do.

For the Birds

Caleb's Nanna has been really into birds. She has several houses and feeders etc. Caleb loves to help her feeding and watering the birds. He also loves to check on her blue birds. She has a family that nest in one of her houses. So this week we bought a bunch of supplies and feeder, bird seed, and a humming bird feeder. So today we went about setting up the feeders and we made the peanut butter bird seed pine cones. He had a blast! I have a picture of one of the pine cones we did. (The squirrels had eaten half of the other by the time I went outside to clean up.)

Knit Wits

Knit wits what a clever name for a knitting group isn't it. Just a bit of background. My best friend Jennifer since college started this group about a year or so ago, but I was a working full time and could not add another thing to my plate, especially learning another skill.
So last month Jennifer invited me to tea and knitting. It seems that I have some sort of muscle memory because I haven't knitted since elementary school. I did try crocheting when I was in high school. But since last month I knitted my friend a scarf, my son a scarf and I am almost finished with a scarf for myself.

This morning I went to two consignment sales. All 4 kids and Born again Blessings. Today was their 1/2 half off. What a bargain. Here is a good website to find consigmnet sales http://www.thebargainwatcher.com. And Daddy and Caleb had a pancake morning. Lots of sticky fun. After I got back we went to Big Peach Running company to buy Patrick some jogging shoes. His starting a routine that has been recommended by several friends. Who knows he might even enter a 5k.

Mornings, Build A Bear, and Birthdays

I love mornings like this morning. Caleb has woken up and wanders in the bedroom and he has all his " loveys". He has not chosen one blanket or stuffed animal to be his lovey. He has a blanket, he has a lamb, and he has two dogs. All that with his sippy cup come wandering in the bedroom wanting to get into bed. Often one lovey gets dropped or left behind and mommy is asked to retrieve said lovey. And then the cuddling that often turns into the plopping and tickling can start.
But I think this may change after today.. maybe.
We went to Build A Bear today with our MOPS play group from Mt. Bethal. He picked out a dog and named him Henry. Henry has not left his side. (except to eat at the food court with everyone else). Maybe later I'll get a photo put up. Its on my phone which is not syncing quite right.
Today is Patrick's Birthday. We went to the grocery store to get Patrick's cake. And yes Henry also went. Henry help Caleb drive the car shopping cart, and eat the cookie the baker gave Caleb.

The Coffee Park

I am new blogger. (We do have a family website, but my husband has really been the one maintaining it.) The moms in my MOPS group have helped me get started in this endeavor.
Since our table missed the MOPS meeting (it was our table time to help with childcare) we met at The Coffee Park. The Coffee Park is a great place! For $5 you can put your child in a play room. Caleb calls the coffee park the tree. (The entrance to the play room looks like a big tree) The Coffee Park has free Wi-Fi and great food and coffee. They have a separate room for groups. Caleb had great fun playing in the tree today and did not want to leave.
